Baler Door Styles Matter
There are so many things to consider when buying a vertical or horizontal recycling baler. From electrical configurations to bale weights and sizes, commodities being recycled, budget, and available operational space, the list seems endless. With all of that to consider, does the baler door style really matter?
The answer is yes. Before you make your next investment in a recycling machine, be sure to know what type of door is offered in the standard specification and what options might be available. Depending on the size of area the baler is used in, the product going into the baler, and the weight of the door, the baler door style can make a big difference!
Types of Vertical Baler Doors
On vertical balers, there two doors, the upper loading door, and the lower unloading door. There are three styles of upper doors available, depending on the baler.
Types of Vertical Baler Upper Loading Doors
Cabinet Style: Just like the name suggests, the top loading door opens on a hinge to the left of the baler. Cabinet style doors are used on the smallest of our vertical balers, the M30STD and M30HD.
Because they open to a little over 90 degrees there is little concern on space limitations, even with the smaller sized baler. Harmony’s larger 42-72″ balers can also utilize these cabinet style doors, but they do not come standard with them.

Sliding Door: The sliding upper door opens vertically from a pull bar in the center of the baler.
Standard on all vertical balers over 30″ in size, Harmony’s sliding doors utilize counterbalance design for ease of lifting and closing.

Flap Style Loading Door: This style of door opens toward the user and allows product to be deposited easily in mass quantity into the baler.
This type of door is ideal for use with aluminum cans or PET bottles, especially ones with liquid in them.
That’s why is utilized in our ExtractPack vertical liquid extraction baler.
Types of Vertical Baler Lower Unloading Doors
Harmony’s vertical balers all used hinged lower unloading doors.
These are typically hinged with the hinge on the left so that the door opens to the left.
Opposite hinges are available upon custom request, if your work area requires that change.
Bifold, accordion style lower unloading doors are also available to assist with space constraints. Our M60MD comes standard with this style of door, while other models can be customized to use a bifold door.
The M60MD can also be converted to a solid lower door, and should be done so when baling plastic, for example.
Types of Horizontal Baler Doors
Harmony’s horizontal balers are typically fed into hoppers using tippers or conveyor systems. The unloading doors are all hinged unloading doors. This includes our HM60, HM-2R185, and HM-A160 horizontal balers, and ExtractPack Plus, and ExtractPack Max liquid extraction balers. The placement of the hinge and its orientation should be approved on the certification drawings prior to order placement.
