Outdoor Trash Compactors for Commercial Use
From Small Footprints to Large Industrial Systems
For over 40 years, Harmony Enterprises has been a leading manufacturer of compactors and balers for applications of every size, need, and scope. Industrial and commercial operations are no exception.
What many facilities do not realize is that outdoor trash compactors are not one size fits all. A small retail backroom, a regional grocery chain, and a high volume distribution center all generate waste differently. That is why Harmony designs equipment ranging from compact space saving units to large industrial roll off compaction systems.
Keeping your compactor functional and efficient is critical to the overall flow of your operations and waste management process. Harmony outdoor compactors are built from high quality materials and engineered to withstand demanding commercial use, whether your need is small scale waste reduction or high throughput industrial compaction.
How Does a Compactor Work?
All Outdoor Compactors work generally in the same way.
Waste is deposited into the compactor until the charge chamber is full. An operator engages the system, activating the hydraulic ram, which pushes the material into an attached container. The ram extends into the receiver box, compressing the waste into a much smaller volume. Once the container reaches capacity, a waste hauler removes it for emptying and transport.
The process then begins again.
The return on investment is proven. Outdoor compactors reduce hauling frequency, lower operational costs, minimize space requirements, and help control odor, vermin, pilfering, and fire risk.
Two Primary Types of Outdoor Compactors
There are two core categories of industrial outdoor compactors:
-
Stationary Compactors
-
Self Contained Compactors
Within each category, Harmony manufactures both smaller footprint systems and larger industrial capacity models.
Stationary Compactors
Small to Large Capacity Systems for Dry Waste
Stationary Compactors are used when there is dry waste, such as wood, metal, and other non-recyclable materials that need to be disposed of. They are usually anchored to the ground in a fixed position. When emptied, the container is removed from the compactor and the waste is dumped and hauled away.
Smaller Stationary Compactors
C100 1 Yard Stationary Compactor
Our C100 is utilized by retail stores nationwide. It requires minimal space in a waste corral while still delivering strong compaction. It works with various container sizes but is best suited for moderate waste volumes.
C200 2 Yard Stationary Compactor
Harmony’s C200 Stationary Compactor is a rugged mid-sized stationary compactor commonly used in supermarkets and midsized operations. It is available in a standard configuration or short back version for tighter installations.
These smaller stationary models are perfect for:
-
Retail locations
-
Pharmacies
-
Small grocery stores
-
Restaurants
-
Facilities with limited corral space
Larger Stationary Compactors
C300 3 Yard Stationary Compactor
The C300 is the largest of the standard Stationary Compactors, and is often used to manage waste in larger industrial applications or big box stores. It is typically connected to larger receiver boxes like 30, 35, and 40 yd. volumes.
Self-Contained Compactors
Self-Contained Compactors are used for both wet or dry waste. The compactor is permanently attached to the container and there is often a sump system to remove the liquid waste safely. When the unit is full, the entire compactor is loaded onto a truck to be taken to the landfill.
The configuration used to dump the waste into your compactor can vary greatly, depending on the physical space available, the type of waste being dumped, and the volume of waste being deposited.
The size of the container also makes a difference, depending on the size of the industrial compactor, type of waste, volume of waste, and the frequency in which the hauler will be picking up the container. Many compactors use 2, 4, 6, or 8 yard containers, but larger operations use 20-40 yard containers for greater efficiency.
Smaller Self-Contained Models
P4FL and P6FL Self Contained Compactors
The P4FL and P6FL are four and six yard liquid tight compactors designed for locations generating both wet and dry waste.
These are ideal for:
-
Supermarkets
-
Food service facilities
-
Retail chains
-
Schools
Harmony’s Self-Contained Compactors are built from prime high-quality steel plate and structural steel channel and tubing. These UL listed self-contained compactors are designed to fit virtually any application. They are often utilized by larger convenient store chains, schools, medical facilities, and industrial distribution centers. The P6FL offers increased capacity over smaller units while maintaining a compact footprint. It can be front load or rear load fed depending on site layout.
For many grocery and food related applications, a P6FL provides the perfect balance between footprint, containment, and hauling efficiency.
Vertical Outdoor Compactors
Compact Footprint Solutions
Vertical compactors are often selected when space is limited but compaction is still required.
P200 Vertical Compactor
The P200 is the first of our vertical outdoor compactors. Its space-saving design comes with a removable 2-yard container and minimal operational footprint. It can be sold as a hard wired machine or as a solar powered unit.
VC100 Vertical Compactor
VC100: Harmony’s VC100 is the vertical compactor for larger waste. It is ideal for use in corrals that have limited space. This 6-yard vertical compactor uses 28,274 lbs. of ram force and has a unique “turret” style loading door can be angled so that the compactor can be ground fed or chute fed from any angle.
Configuration Matters
Outdoor compactors can be ground fed, chute fed, hopper fed, doghouse enclosed, or installed on walk on decks and loading docks. The right configuration depends on:
-
Physical space
-
Waste type
-
Waste volume
-
Hauling frequency
-
Utility access
-
Growth projections
There are ground fed, chute fed, hoppers, doghouses, walk-on decks, and loading docks. This helpful blog can help you with understanding compactor configurations. Container size also impacts efficiency. Smaller operations may use 2 to 8 yard containers, while large industrial sites often rely on 20 to 40 yard roll off boxes.
Finding the Right Size for Your Operation
Choosing the right outdoor compactor is about more than equipment. It is about aligning waste volume, site constraints, and operational goals.
From a compact P200 vertical unit to a P6FL self contained system to a heavy duty stationary roll off compactor serving a distribution center, Harmony manufactures solutions built to fit your facility today and scale with you tomorrow.
