Aluminum Can Balers vs. Full Can Balers
Recyclers and other businesses use aluminum can balers to help them bale empty cans to be recycled for profit. What do companies do when they need to protect their brand image and keep their inventory current, baling full cans of products with the liquid still inside? Full can balers, commonly referred to as liquid extraction balers, are the solution trusted by beverage manufacturers, distribution centers, breweries, retail locations, and more to perforate, drain, and bale these out-of-spec or expired products.
What Are Full Can Balers?
Full can balers are hydraulic powered machines that crush aluminum, PET, and Tetra Pak containers and eject them as uniform, stackable bales to be transported and recycled.
They differ from regular can balers in that when full cans of pop, coffee, water, and more are deposited into the baler, special components help to puncture and destroy the container holding the liquid.
As the product is crushed, the residual liquid is collected into a reservoir drain that can then be pumped out according to local, state, or federal regulations.
Once the chamber of the baler is full, the bale can be tied and the product can be ejected, stacked, and stored. These same stackable bales can be easily maneuvered into trucks or shipping containers and taken to processors that turn the used containers into new products.
What Types Of Full Can Balers Are There?
Harmony Enterprises manufactures the widest range of long lasting recycling solutions on the market. Part of these solutions include four full can ExtractPack balers; two vertical models and two horizontal designs. Each of these innovative machines provides an immediate savings on the space and labor needed to manage recycled cans and bottles.
Our ExtractPack is the smallest version, typically fed by hand at the front of the baler. The cutting edge shark’s teeth design on the platen punctures the product while the liquid drains into the large 51 gallon reservoir located beneath the machine. There are built in splash guards to reduce mess.
Made of stainless steel construction anywhere liquid touches the baler, this amazing crusher bales and drains up to 2,000 PET bottles or 4,000 aluminum cans in one 24”x 16” ≤ 24” bale, allowing employees to empty and bale full cans 7X faster than by doing it manually.
Like the ExtractPack, our ExtractPack Pro has a space-saving vertical design. While this baler can also be front-loaded, it is typically conveyor fed from the rear with a tipper or hopper. Its automatic cycling function allows product to keep being fed into the baler until the chamber is full. At that time, the conveyor stops and the baler runs its own cycle. This process is repeated until the chamber is full, at which time the bale can be tied and the bale ejected. This baler uses its massive ram force and sometimes a perforator drum to help destroy the product. There are stainless steel catwalks to allow operators to easily move in and around the baler. The efficiency of our ExtractPack Pro allows you to work through high volumes of product, making 600 lb. bales of aluminum and 550 lb. bales of PET fast.
For operations that have higher volumes, our ExtractPack Plus and ExtracPack Max might be a better option. Both of these stainless steel horizontal models are usually fed by a tipper into the hopper on the top of the machine. Their perforator drums make quick work of multiple sizes of containers and then crushes them into dense, mill-sized bales for easy stacking, storage, or transport. These workhorse balers not only have color HMI interfaces, they both have huge 207-gallon stainless steel liquid reservoirs with custom two-piece straining screen system to catch debris. The mid-sized ExtractPack Plus makes 220 lbs. of aluminum and 240 lb. bales of PET, while the ExtractPack Max uses an incredible 235,600 lbs. of ram force to create 765 lb. bales of aluminum and 875 lb. bales of PET!
