Over 300 million scrap tires are discarded in the U.S. every year! Some tires are recycled into ground crumb rubber and used in road construction, athletic playing surfaces, and molded products. Tire waste is also sometimes used in civil engineering projects or burned as tire-derived fuel in high-tech burning facilities. Creative homeowners and DIY’ers have also found some pretty unique upcycle ideas for old tires (beyond the common tire swing or sandbox) that can give the tires new purpose. Proper tire waste disposal can be cumbersome and expensive due to the size of the tires. Some tires, unfortunately, are disposed of improperly, causing both health risks and environmental risks.
Improper Tire Waste Disposal Poses Health & Environmental Risks
Health officials have blamed old tires as an indirect source of illnesses like West Nile Virus and Encephalitis. The rainwater that collects in old, unburied tires is an ideal breeding ground for pesky mosquitoes that carry these diseases. Used tires are bulky, taking up precious storage space at your facility. Some communities even require used tires to be stored indoors, locked in trucks or kept behind fenced and gated areas. Handling and storing old tires adds to the cost of your operation. Hauling and disposal fees are high and are only going to get higher. Let’s face it, scrap tire waste is bulky, heavy, and bad for the environment, making it very difficult to properly dispose of or recycle. Tire manufacturers, tire retailers, auto manufacturers, auto mechanics, and tire recycling facilities with bulky scrap tire waste need an easy method to responsibly storing and recycling the scrap tires. The Compactyre Tire Compactor offers the solution.
Your Solution to Tire Waste Disposal – Compactyre
If your facility has ongoing scrap tire waste, a scrap tire compactor, such as the Compactyre, from Harmony Enterprises, can reduce the size of your scrap tires by 66%! At just one third of its size, a large stack of tires becomes easier to store, transport or recycle. This creates an immediate return on investment on labor, hauling, and fuel costs and makes tire waste disposal easier.
Compactyre reduces bulky scrap tire waste to one third its original size, thus reducing labor and hauling costs.
Benefits of the Compactyre Scrap Tire Compactor

How the Compactyre Tire Compactor Works
Compactyre is a patented, hydraulically driven tire compactor that takes a full-sized scrap tire and compresses it into 1/3 the size to prepare it for proper tire waste disposal. As part of the process, the tire is also punctured in four places and fastened with four metal staples, rendering it unusable. Compactyre is designed for compacting all passenger, light truck and SUV tires. Compactyre has a “footprint” of just 45” x 34” and a maximum operating height of 91”, so it will take up very little room in your facility. It is powered by a standard 115/230 VAC single phase circuit, and uses an energy efficient 2 horsepower motor, and whisper quiet hydraulics with a long-life cylinder, to keep operating costs low.
