FST Return Customer Success Story
A few years ago, we shared a story with you entitled, “A Flood of Support”, about how a Harmony baler was helping Floodwood Services and Training (FST) with their recycling program that helped to subsidize programs for adults with a variety of challenges. We are extremely proud to once again share how FST is partnering with state agencies, as a return Harmony customer, using additional Harmony balers to achieve its operational goals.
For over four decades, FST has put the needs and aspirations of older adults, their caregivers and adults struggling with physical, developmental, intellectual, and mental health challenges first providing a day program experience where they can socialize and engage in enriching activities of choice while upholding their dignity and treating them with respect. Located on the very edge of Northern Minnesota’s remarkable wetlands and natural bird and game preserves, FST serves people in southwest St. Louis County, northeastern Carlton County, southeastern Itasca County within a 40-mile radius of Floodwood. This includes incorporated and unincorporated townships such as: Meadowlands, Cromwell, and Brookston. FST’s state licensed Vocational Program provides program participants with employment training opportunities in all facets of recycling operations. FST recycling program is recognized as a leader in protecting area resources while teaching valuable employment skills.
A Valuable Collaboration
As the primary provider of area recycling services, processing more than 150 tons per year, its program recently capitalized on the opportunity to expand its services by partnering with the city of Floodwood and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) providing curbside recycling pickup for all Floodwood residents and businesses. “FST is privileged to collaborate with the city of Floodwood to expand recycling services and grateful to the MPCA for recognizing the value of investing in small rural communities. We anticipate that this project will have profound effects on diverting items from our landfills, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, reducing energy usage, soil, and water pollution,” shared FST Director Dawn Lamping.
To accommodate the increase in materials FST has purchased an additional Harmony 60” vertical baler, which is one of four Harmony balers in operation at the FST Recycling Center. According to Program Director, Chris Tommila, “This baler will be valuable to our processing center in handling the significant increase in recyclables as the new project begins. Not only does Harmony have the best price and are conveniently located, they go above and beyond, ensuring that we are satisfied and find value in their equipment. They are an excellent example of outstanding customer service in action. We look forward to once again working with them as we purchase this baler.”

We would like to thank FST for the opportunity to earn their repeat business through the value, equipment longevity, and customer service afforded by partnering with Harmony Enterprises. We also would like to congratulate them on their joint venture with the MPCA in making their region of Minnesota a more beautiful place for generations to come, while making a positive impact on the lives of others.
