A Safer, Simpler Way to Reset Harmony Equipment
Harmony Enterprises is continuing to improve the customer experience with another practical update to our standardized Legion electrical box. Beginning this fall, Harmony will roll out a new external overload reset button on all balers & compactors equipped with the Legion box.
The small black button, mounted on the outside of the electrical enclosure, allows an operator to reset a motor overload without opening the electrical box. It is a simple addition that can make a meaningful difference in safety, convenience & equipment uptime.
What Is a Motor Overload?
An overload condition does not necessarily mean that something is wrong with the equipment. It means the motor temporarily drew more current than its normal operating range for long enough to activate a protective overload relay.
This can happen in demanding working environments for several reasons. A machine may encounter an unusually heavy or dense load, material may place added resistance on moving components, or frequent cycling may temporarily increase the motor load. The cause may also originate within the facility’s electrical environment rather than the equipment itself. Voltage fluctuations, voltage imbalance, phase loss, undersized wiring, loose electrical connections, voltage drops from other high demand equipment, or the way electrical loads are distributed throughout the facility can all contribute to an overload condition.
The overload relay is designed to respond before excess current creates too much heat in the motor. When it trips, it interrupts operation and gives the motor and electrical components an opportunity to cool. In other words, the overload is doing exactly what it was designed to do: helping protect the equipment.
After the temporary condition has been addressed and the motor has had sufficient time to cool, the overload can often be reset so normal operation can resume. If the overload trips repeatedly, the cause should be evaluated before the machine is placed back into service. Operators should always follow the equipment manual, applicable safety procedures and Harmony guidance.
Keeping Operators Outside the Electrical Box
On many machines, resetting an overload has traditionally required access to the overload relay inside the electrical enclosure. That may be straightforward for a qualified electrical professional, but most equipment operators are not trained, certified or authorized to troubleshoot circuits inside an open electrical box.
Harmony’s new external reset button provides a safer, more appropriate approach. An operator can perform the permitted reset from outside the closed enclosure without being exposed to energized electrical components. The enclosure remains secured while the operator follows the established reset procedure.
This update does not replace proper lockout and tagout procedures, electrical safety requirements or qualified service when troubleshooting is necessary. It simply moves a commonly needed reset function to a safer and more convenient location.
Less Downtime & Faster Resolution
The external reset button can also help facilities avoid unnecessary downtime. A temporary overload trip may otherwise lead to a call with maintenance personnel, Harmony Technical Support or a local service provider simply because the reset device is located inside the enclosure.
Providing external access may allow an authorized operator to complete a routine reset quickly, restore operation and avoid a service visit for a condition that does not require a repair. This can be especially valuable when a trip is related to equipment use or another circumstance that may not qualify as a warrantable service issue.
When additional help is needed, Harmony Technical Support can still assist in determining whether the condition is temporary or whether further troubleshooting is appropriate. Recurring overload trips should never be treated as something to reset repeatedly without identifying the cause.

Harmony introduced the standardized Legion box to make our equipment easier to operate, diagnose and support. Its common controls and status indicators help customers better understand machine conditions while giving technicians more useful information before a service visit.
The external overload reset button continues that approach. It is a practical improvement focused on operator safety, faster recovery and reduced service expense. Customers will begin seeing the feature on Legion equipped Harmony balers and compactors this fall.
