The Season of Giving At Harmony
As Christmas quickly approaches, we are reminded that Christmastime truly is the Season of Giving at Harmony Enterprises! We are proud to announce that our employees continued their tradition of hosting a competitive “canstruction” food drive, donating large amounts of canned goods to the local food shelf.
Here is how Harmony’s annual food drive works:
Participating employees are divided up into their safety groups and are encouraged to hold pre-event meetings to come up with creative building plans. The idea is simple, each participating employee brings in canned goods for donation to use in their “build”. The more cans of various sizes and shapes they brought bring in, the more interesting and intricate their designs can be!
Teams are given a designated amount of time and specific rules on how they can work together to stack, bind, and manufacture their “canstructs.” Everything must be built during the allotted time, and no pre-constructs are allowed. Teams are encouraged to incorporate as much color, depth, use of space, and use of lights and other design elements as possible.
Each final design was judged by a panel of impartial local community members who have long lasting relationships with Harmony Enterprises.
This year’s judges were (L to R):
-
- Sarah Wangen, SEMCAC Preston – Food Distribution Center
- Steve Donney, Harmony Mayor & Cetera Investments
- Matt Brown, Estellle’s Eatery and Bar
- James Skaalen, First Southeast Bank of Harmony
Each judge voted for their favorite “canstruction” in each of the following categories: Creativity & Originality, Overall Structure & Number of Canned Goods, Use of Available Space, and Overall Appeal. The winning team earned a pizza lunch party for their best-in-show design. Thank you to all of our esteemed judges and employee participants for making Harmony’s annual food drive a successful event!
This year’s builds included “Erasing Hunger”, a “Slice of Pie”, and an interactive Harmony game of “Life”.
The winning creation was “A Charlie Brown Christmas” featuring Snoopy on his doghouse, Schroder’s piano, and the famous little Christmas tree.
