Harmony Enterprises As An Educational Resource
The perfect match is created when two quality organizations like these and their people intersect. Junior Achievement instruction is made possible by business professionals who volunteer their time and talents inside the classroom. Harmony is committed to free release time for employees to participate in programs like J.A. Harmony’s Director of Sales, Nick Roberts, has been doing this for the better part of a decade. Most recently, he has been teaching J.A.’s “Our Region” unit with Ms. Zinke’s 4th Grade class at Saint Ambrose Catholic School in Woodbury, MN.
Regional Resources For Business
Junior Achievement’s “Our Region” unit introduces the relationship between the natural, human, and capital resources found in different regions and explores regional businesses that produce goods and services for consumers.
Natural resources are materials or substances which are found in nature and can be used for economic gains, such as minerals, forests, water and fertile land. Some are finite, whereas others can be replenished or grown, but all types should be managed carefully.
Human resources are the people needed to help produce, ship, and sell the goods and services offered by a business.
Capital resources include money to start a new business, tools, buildings, machinery, and any other goods people make to produce goods and provide services.
In this unit, Mr. Roberts teaches the concepts of business, choices, economy, exchange, expenses, goods, incentives, income, investment, products, profit, region, resources, risk, scarcity, services, specialization, and taxes.
Through his teaching, the 4th grade students learn the skills of comparing, compiling data, conducting research, decision-making, differentiating, giving reports, interpreting data, mathematical skills, problem-solving, reading, teamwork, and how to understand a variety of symbols.
It is through these hands-on experiences that students gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to one day be entrepreneurs themselves, starting successful businesses that have a positive social and economic impact in the region we live in.
Harmony As A Regional Resource
Harmony Enterprises is a regional business rooted in the same entrepreneurial spirit. Harmony is a third-generation family owned manufacturer of balers and compactors located only two hours from Woodbury. Offering the widest range of waste and recycling solutions available, Harmony is the perfect example of how a successful company leverages regional resources for success.
Natural resources: Harmony prides itself on using U.S. steel in the production of our quality machines. We source our steel and component parts from local vendors who themselves are regional resources.
Human resources: We rely on the skilled talent of our dedicated regional employees to market, sell, design, source, manufacture, ship, and service our innovative solutions.
Capital resources: Harmony partners with local financial institutions, Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), Workforce Development, and other partners to secure the funding required for our operations.
All of these categories of resources require symbiotic relationships with regional partners and provide a lasting positive impact on our regional economy, customers, community, and employees!
