Recycle, Compact, & Clean Up For Earth Day 2023
Earth Day is coming up soon on Saturday, April 22, 2023! Harmony Enterprises challenges you and your business to recycle, compact, & clean up for Earth Day 2023!
This year’s Earth Day theme is a continuation of last year’s huge success, “Invest In Our Planet”. This great slogan should resonate with all of us. We all share the same planet, and we only get one. We all know there are natural by-products of everyday business operations. Earth Day 2023 is a great reminder that we all have a responsibility to reduce the burden we place on the environment by recycling, compacting, and cleaning up not only in our homes and our communities, but also at our places of work.
According to earthday.org, “sustainability is the path to prosperity for humanity and businesses alike. Companies who’ve developed strong Environment Social Governance (ESG) standards are seeing better profitability, stronger financial performance, and happier employees. There is no longer a choice between going green and growing long term profits. If they don’t, climate change will cause even more catastrophic damage to our economies and negatively impact us all!”
With this warning in mind, here are three things you and your business should be doing to make the earth a better place for generations to come.
Recycle More
A successful recycling program in a business takes many forms. It begins with an employee and owner commitment to sort paper, plastics, water bottles, aluminum cans, paper, and more. The recyclables generated by employee and customer use can often be added to your operational recycling programs to create a cleaner work environment, while reducing waste added to your dumpster or compactor. Recycling improves brand image and promotes a sustainability-minded culture and customer experience.

Recycling operational by-products like cardboard helps to increase space, workplace safety, and recycling revenue!
More obviously, businesses should be recycling by-products of their operations. Many companies generate cardboard, plastic, and shrink wrap waste in their receivable packaging. These, and other commodities have value and should be baled with a recycling baler to sell to local recyclers. Regardless of the current commodity prices, there is value to reducing waste that you have to pay to have removed, while increasing operational space and cleanliness and ensuring a more safe work environment for your employees.
Compact To Reduce Waste Footprint
Once your business has a recycling program in place for both employees and operations, you should notice a significant reduction in the amount of waste you are paying to have hauled away weekly or monthly.
Did you know that you can further reduce the burden of waste and its overall footprint in the landfill by using a trash compactor instead of a dumpster? Most compactors provide a minimum of a 4:1 compaction ratio, meaning that your waste would take up a 1/4 of the space is does now and need to be hauled 75% less of the time. While many compactors, like most stationary and vertical compactors are designed to handle dry waste, self-contained compactors reduce a variety of either wet or dry waste materials!
Compactors can be fed in a several different ways, configured to the needs of your business. This often means that your employees do not have to go outside to deposit the trash, but can use a chute, walk-on dock, or other configuration to load the trash from inside your business. This saves time and money, but also provides an additional layer of safety for your employees. Plus, compactors are secure and help to keep vermin, odor, and human pilferage out of your trash!
Clean Up For Earth Day 2023

Cleaning up ditches and yards is a great way for your company to volunteer in your community this Earth Day!
Earth Day 2023 is on a Saturday! That’s great news, because that means its easier for your business to schedule group activities that help to clean up your community. Activities like highway pick ups are a great place to start! Harmony has proudly been an active member of MNDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program since 2019.
