Harmony Recycling Market Pulse: Updated Weekly!
Week of November 2-6, 2026
OCC (Old Corrugated Containers)
The national average price for OCC remains approximately $91 per ton, compared to $50–$55 per ton in October 2025. Recovered cardboard continues to demonstrate considerable year-over-year strength, supported by more favorable fiber market conditions. For businesses generating significant cardboard volumes, maintaining clean, dry material and producing consistent, densely packed bales can help preserve commodity value while reducing storage and transportation expenses.
Mixed Paper
Mixed paper continues to average approximately $35–$40 per ton nationally, compared to $26 per ton one year ago. Although prices remain significantly below OCC, stronger year-over-year values reflect improved conditions for recovered fiber. Proper material separation, contamination control, and efficient baling remain important for organizations looking to minimize handling costs and improve the marketability of their recovered paper.
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
Post-consumer PET bottles and jars are averaging approximately 2.53 cents per pound, down from 2.61 cents in September and 4.50 cents in October 2025. PET remains among the weaker commonly recovered recycling commodities, creating continued challenges for processors managing collection and sorting costs. Maintaining consistent bale quality, reducing contamination, and maximizing transportation efficiency are especially important when commodity revenues provide limited operating margins.
Aluminum UBC (Used Beverage Cans)
Sorted, baled aluminum beverage cans remain at approximately 96.56 cents per pound nationally, compared to 78.44 cents one year ago. Aluminum continues to demonstrate strong recovery value relative to other common packaging materials. Effective collection, separation, and densification can help businesses capitalize on these favorable conditions while reducing material handling requirements and improving shipping efficiency.
Steel Cans
Sorted, baled steel cans continue to average approximately $198 per ton, compared to $158 per ton in October 2025. Relatively stable pricing and improved year-over-year values provide a positive foundation for recovered steel recycling. Businesses can support material value through proper separation, minimizing contamination, and producing consistent, transport-ready loads.
Overall Market Outlook
As November begins, recycling commodity markets continue to demonstrate a clear separation between stronger fiber and metal values and weaker PET pricing. OCC, mixed paper, aluminum, and steel cans remain above year-ago levels, while PET continues to face significant downward pressure. Recent improvements in certain HDPE and polypropylene markets offer some encouragement, although plastics pricing remains uneven.
With businesses beginning to finalize their 2027 operating budgets, the focus should remain on factors they can control: material quality, processing efficiency, equipment reliability, and transportation costs. Effective baling, compaction, and waste stream management can help recycling operations remain productive and financially resilient regardless of short-term commodity fluctuations.
