Recently, Harmony Enterprises, (a third-generation global provider of waste and recycling solutions, based in Harmony, MN), sought to invest in equipment to enhance its own operations. Having used the same burn table to cut steel for several years, the company decided to upgrade their equipment to meet the growth of their expanding business. A new plasma burn table was purchased and installed in the Harmony plant in February of 2017. With its increased size and capability, this powerful new tool allows Harmony to continue to lead the industry in efficiency, precision, and quality. Extensive training and safety sessions were held for their employees so that they could immediately begin to utilize the benefits of this new, cutting-edge technology.
Seizing the Opportunity To Help Each Other
Although purchasing a new burn table was a solution for their increased production, it also presented Harmony Enterprises with the problem of what to do with their old burn table, DoAll Saw, and shear, in order to make room for this larger new equipment.
Selling the table to the highest bidder would be the obvious choice. The stereotypical profile for a buyer would be a larger manufacturer in an industrialized urban area who wants to expand their business. They might possess a great deal of capital and see the purchase of quality used equipment as a “steal”.
Paying It Forward
Rather than sell elsewhere, and in the spirit of community, CEO Steve Cremer approached a local welding company, Solberg Welding, about their possible need for a used burn table, saw, and shear. The enhanced capability provided by the used equipment allows Solberg Welding to fabricate products that they have always wanted to, but couldn’t, since they did not have the proper equipment. Providing upfront capital and shipping expenses consistently prohibited them from achieving this goal. Acquiring these items from Harmony at a reduced rate with no shipping was a winning solution for both parties.
With their “new” equipment, Solberg Welding can create welded parts and products used by Harmony Enterprises in their many quality balers and compactors. The updated technology will increase Solberg’s production and allow them to hire new staff, which continues to benefit the community.
