The Harmony Community
Harmony is a vibrant community located in the beautiful bluff country of Southeast Minnesota. Over 10,000 tourists flock annually to this progressive city to enjoy the extensive bike trails, Niagra Cave, Amish Tours, the 4th of July Celebration, and to enjoy the many restaurants and shops in downtown. With this traffic, the Harmony Visitor’s Center is the hub of activity, providing guests with information about activities, history, and exciting things to do in the area.
When Harmony Enterprises reached out to its Interested Parties earlier this year, our local businesses and civic organizations expressed the need to showcase Harmony’s products in and around the community. Harmony Enterprises has been a catalyst for employment and economic growth in Harmony since 1962. Its rich history is steeped in innovation and the company’s story continues to grow today, providing waste handling and recycling solutions to satisfied customers in over 80 countries worldwide. To meet this need, Harmony Enterprises donated a wall mural and SmartPack Automatic Compactor to the Visitor’s Center.
Our Donation

Umbelina Cremer, Executive Director of Harmony Kids Learning Center, Steve Cremer, President, Harmony Enterprises, Ramon Hernandez, VP of Operations, Harmony Enterprises, Becky Hoff, Harmony Chamber Director, and Steve Donney, Mayor of Harmony at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the community donation.
The wall mural was created with input from Harmony Enterprises’ Leadership Team, focusing on company’s Core Purpose of Career, Community, and Culture. Harmony Enterprises provides meaningful employment to nearly 80 people in the region, utilizes local vendors to help create their innovative products, is deeply committed to giving back to the community, works to provide a fun and positive culture for our employees, and creates products and services that make the earth a better place for generations to come. The vinyl mural represents these ideas and was manufactured and installed by local vendor, Kelly Printing and Signs. The graphics were heat-treated into the cinder block wall of the Visitor’s Center. The design leaves room for the compactor, while providing a colorful backdrop for patron’s to view.
The SmartPack Automatic Compactor is one of the most recognized waste solution in Harmony’s extensive product line of balers, compactors, and beverage extraction equipment. SmartPacks are utilized in airports, restaurants, shopping malls, sporting venues, universities, casinos, and museums worldwide. Its impressive 11:1 compaction ratio reduces trash related expenses by up to 70% and trash bag use by 30%. With the addition of Harmony’s Insite Wireless Monitoring, the compactor can be emptied on a “just in time” basis, saving city employees the need to check on the trash until action is required. They receive SMS text or email messages telling them when the unit is partially full, full, or needs the door closed. It tracks compaction cycles, motor run time, signal strength and other data to create useful reports on how to best optimize preventive maintenance and scheduling. Not having to constantly check on trash levels at the busy Visitor’s Center gives city employees more time for important jobs around town.

Reaction to the unveiling of the wall mural and compactor donation
Chamber of Commerce Director, Becky Hoff, states, “So often guests to the Visitor Center ask about local industry in Harmony, and of course we always tell them about Harmony Enterprises! This new mural and compactor are compelling visual pieces that tell the story of Harmony Enterprises, and help people learn more about what goes on in our community. We’re also excited about the practical time and space saving aspects of the new compactor. Thank you for this contribution to our Visitor Center!”
A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this past Saturday, October 20 at 10 AM with President, Steve Cremer, VP of Operations, Ramon Hernandez, and New Business Development Manager, Lane Powell in attendance. Chamber and City Officials, regional media, and several visitors were also present. The unveiling of the donation coincided with Harmony’s fall festival, entitled, “Haunted Harmony.”
