Harmony Reaches Important Safety Milestone
Throughout the 58 years Harmony Enterprises has been in business, safety has been paramount. The safety and health of our employees is a prerequisite for us to be able to live our core purpose of providing a nurturing environment to promote career, community, and culture. During the last week in September, Harmony reached an incredible milestone in our safety record. We eclipsed the 500 day mark with no lost time incidents in our production facility located in Harmony, MN.
VP of Operations, Ramon Hernandez touted this outstanding achievement by the Harmony team, saying, “It is a testament to what we do, our safety protocols, our safety team, and all of our employees.”
“Safety is a true team effort, its not just one person. It takes all of us.”
-Ramon Hernandez, VP of Operations
Not only does this help with our compliance to OHSA and ISO 9001:2015 Standards, it creates a positive environment in which our employees can thrive and do their best work for our customers.
The Importance of Safety In Manufacturing
Whether our staff is welding components for a baler, assembling an automatic trash compactor, or even working in an office, it is important that each and every person stays safe. This is especially true in an virus-resilient world that we currently live in.
Why is safety so important in manufacturing?
-
The obvious answer is that we want to protect our most valuable asset, our people. Our dedicated employees are committed to providing our customers with the most innovative waste handling and recycling solutions available. We are dedicated to giving them what they need to get that job done safely.
- Safety is also important in manufacturing because it helps to boost worker morale. This can be a significant factor in productivity, or during difficult times, such as a downturn in the economy, a pandemic, or winter months.
- Safety in manufacturing also helps to ensure that our employees follow the proper processes to create conforming products for our customers, void of flaws or imperfections.
- Safety also helps to reduce our own costs, leading to cost savings that is eventually passed on to the customer in many ways, including equipment efficiency.
Ways That We Work To Maintain Our Record
There are many ways that Harmony works to maintain our safety record every day. Here are just a few:
Safety Committee- Harmony has a safety committee that meets regularly to discuss issues and create proactive measure to reduce risks throughout our facility. They work to provide employees with additional benefits and incentives, while sharing vital feedback with management.

Our most important asset is our people. Providing them with the most up -to-date training is critical to keeping them safe.
Training – Harmony employees are constantly being trained on the equipment and tools they use, as well as our internal processes and procedures. A manufacturing plant is a fluid environment and everyone must be aware of the potential for safety problems.
Part of this training includes first aid and emergency training. Employees must know where first aid stations and kits are located, as well as how to use them. They also need to understand who to contact and where to go in each emergency scenario.
Labeling – To help with this training, Harmony spends a great deal of time and effort with labeling. Tools, chemicals, inventory, work spaces, and procedures are clearly labeled in each area to assist employees. This quick reference visual aids give precise direction on safety and emergency concerns.
Maintenance and Calibration – Any important part of safety is maintaining our tools and facility. Our physical maintenance crew routinely checks the entire facility to make sure that Harmony is following OSHA, ISO, and other strict standards related to facility, equipment, and flow. In addition, they are responsible of making sure every tool is calibrated correctly for product conformity and employee safety.
Continuing Education – As technology and processes change, it is very important to provide continuing training and education to employees to stay up-to-date with any changes. Harmony provides this training in all departments and documents it in universal storage areas.
Our Employees Deserve The Credit!
No matter what steps are taken to try to create a safe work environment, this safety milestone simply would not happen if it were not for the concerted efforts of each and every one of our dedicated employees. We would like to thank them for all that they do for Harmony Enterprises and our Harmony community every day.
