Harmony Recycling Market Pulse: Updated Weekly!
MONDAY MARKET PULSE | OCTOBER 5–9, 2026
OCC
Old corrugated containers continue to show strength heading into October. The latest national average reached about $90 per ton, up roughly $10 from the previous month and well above the $67 per ton average from a year ago.
Mixed Paper
Mixed paper also strengthened in the latest reporting period, moving into the $35–$40 per ton range. That represents about a $5 per ton monthly increase and puts the grade above its level from the same period last year.
PET
PET remains the soft spot among the major curbside commodities. Post-consumer PET bottles and jars are averaging approximately 2.61 cents per pound, essentially unchanged from the prior month but significantly below the 5.09 cents per pound seen one year ago.
Aluminum UBC
Aluminum beverage cans continue to provide strong value, with sorted and baled UBCs averaging approximately 96.56 cents per pound nationally. That is up slightly from the previous month and considerably higher than the 78.44 cents per pound average from a year ago.
Steel Cans
Sorted and baled steel cans remain steady at approximately $198 per ton. While pricing was essentially flat in the latest reporting period, current values remain well above the $158 per ton average recorded one year earlier.
Overall Market
Recovered fiber and metals are providing much of the positive momentum heading into October, while PET continues to face a challenging pricing environment. OCC and mixed paper have both improved, and aluminum remains particularly strong. For recycling operations, the contrast reinforces the importance of producing clean, marketable material and efficiently managing every commodity stream.
Market conditions and pricing can vary by region, material quality, volume, transportation costs, and individual buyer or mill agreements.
