Opening Our Doors To The Community
Harmony Enterprises’ Core Purpose is Career, Community, and Culture. We understand and value the interdependent relationship between our employees, customers, vendors, and community members. We believe in sharing our success with the greater community and often invite groups into our facility for educational tours.
This past month, we were proud to open our doors to the community on several different occasions. Each tour varied, depending on the group that requested the tour, as well as the theme or objective of each event.
What’s In A Harmony Tour?
A typical tour starts with a brief presentation in our conference room, outlining the history of our progressive third-generation, family-owned company. Founded in 1962 as an employment opportunity for local residents, Harmony’s products have changed with the demand in the market. Beginning with bikini cane seats, ice fishing houses, and camper awnings, and migrating to the balers, compactors, and liquid extraction equipment we are so known for today. People are excited to see our “Experience Harmony” company overview and “Harmony Core Values” videos.
From there, guests are walked through the entire manufacturing process of our quality products and services. They visit our sales and marketing, engineering, purchasing, inventory and parts, fabrication, welding, clean up, paint, panel build, assembly, shipping, accounting, and customer service departments. WE focus on the LEAN manufacturing process and how Harmony improves its processes and people through the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) and as an ISO 9001:2015 certified company.
Who Visited Us This Summer?
In July, Harmony was visited by a group from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. This group arrived via charter bus and consisted of over 40 participants!
They separated into three smaller groups and toured both Harmony Enterprises and the Harmony Kids Learning Center, located just north of our main production plant. The SMIF group consisted of a wide array of professionals, including those representing local chambers of commerce, education, economic development, finance, transportation, and more.
Later the same month, we were fortunate to have members of Harmony’s Golden Happenings.
Golden Happenings is a community organization focused on enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens in the Harmony, MN area. Supported by the Harmony Area Community Foundation, they are a senior group dedicated to providing educational programs, socials, support, and to being of service to the community.
It was a special day for us to learn that several members of the tour group were former Harmony Enterprises employees themselves, ranging from seamstresses back in the 1960’s to assemblers as recent as this decade. It was amazing to see what our current team learned from their perspective on how things were when the company started and how they have changed over the decades!
Finally, Harmony was visited by a regional development tour put together by the Community and Economic Development Associates based in Chatfield, MN (CEDA).
The theme of the tour of Harmony was “Harmony invests in itself.” The tour highlighted the recent expansion of Harmony’s shipping department and the addition of the Harmony Kids Learning Center. Attendees learned the story for both Harmony Enterprises and Harmony Kids is as a model for development with other developers, real estate agents, engineers, etc. Both of these projects improved public infrastructure and created opportunities for business and housing growth in the Harmony and surrounding areas.
