Insite Equipment Monitoring FAQs
Remote Monitoring for Balers, Compactors & Waste Equipment
Waste and recycling equipment often operates in the background until a container becomes full, a machine loses power, a door is left open, or an unexpected issue interrupts operations. Without remote visibility, employees may spend valuable time physically checking equipment, responding to overflow, requesting premature hauls, or waiting for a service technician to begin diagnosing a problem.
Harmony Insite™ Equipment Monitoring provides real-time visibility into balers, indoor compactors, outdoor compactors, and other waste and recycling assets. Through a customizable cloud-based dashboard, authorized users can review equipment status, receive automated alerts, monitor usage, organize assets across multiple locations, export reports, and use historical data to improve hauling, maintenance, labor scheduling, and sustainability performance.
This guide explains how Harmony Insite works, what information it can provide, how it connects securely, and how organizations can use equipment data to make faster and more informed decisions.
What Is Harmony Insite Equipment Monitoring?
Harmony Insite™ Equipment Monitoring is a remote monitoring platform developed for waste and recycling equipment. It collects operational information from connected machines and presents that information through a secure, customizable dashboard.
Depending on the equipment and selected configuration, Insite can monitor conditions such as container fullness, cycle counts, runtime, power status, open doors, communication strength, equipment faults, and other operating information. Automated email or SMS alerts allow designated employees, facility managers, service personnel, or haulers to respond when attention is needed.
Insite supports individual machines as well as equipment fleets distributed across multiple facilities. Assets can be grouped into dashboards or IoT scenes, allowing organizations to see the status of many machines without visiting every location or reviewing separate systems.
The goal is to transform equipment management from a reactive process into a more visible, coordinated, and data-informed operation.
How Does Remote Equipment Monitoring Work?
Sensors, equipment controls, and a connected gateway collect information from the baler or compactor. That information is communicated securely to the Insite platform through cellular or approved Ethernet connectivity.
Authorized users can access the cloud-based dashboard from a computer, tablet, or smartphone. The dashboard displays the equipment’s current status and available historical information. Users can also establish notifications for selected conditions, such as when a container is partially full, completely full, unplugged, not communicating, or experiencing an operating issue.
The amount and type of information available depend on the machine, its controls, installed sensors, connectivity, and the Insite configuration selected for the application.
Insite operates in the background and does not require employees to change the normal loading process. Instead, it gives managers and service teams greater visibility into what the equipment is doing.
What Can Harmony Insite Monitor?
Available monitoring capabilities vary by machine and configuration, but may include:
- Partial-full and full-container status
- Equipment operating status
- Compaction cycle counts
- Motor runtime
- Cycle duration
- Power loss or unplugged conditions
- Door-open events
- Container-present status
- Communication timeouts
- Cellular signal strength
- Component faults or abnormal behavior
- Selected maintenance indicators
- Asset location and GPS visibility
- Historical status and usage trends
Information should be selected according to the organization’s operational goals. A restaurant or airport may focus on container fullness and labor scheduling, while a warehouse or manufacturer may prioritize hauling efficiency, uptime, cycle counts, and service diagnostics.
What Equipment Can Be Connected to Insite?
Harmony Insite can support several categories of waste and recycling equipment, including indoor compactors, SmartPack Automatic Trash Compactors, stainless-steel compactors, stationary compactors, self-contained compactors, recycling balers, and other compatible machines.
Insite can also be considered for selected existing equipment, including machines manufactured by companies other than Harmony. The available monitoring functions depend on the machine’s age, controls, sensors, condition, and electrical configuration. Some equipment may support basic status and fullness monitoring, while newer PLC-controlled machines may allow access to more detailed diagnostic information.
A compatibility review is required before assuming that a particular machine can provide every available Insite function.
Turning Equipment Data Into Operational Decisions
Remote monitoring creates value when information leads to a timely action. A full-container alert can prompt a hauler request. A partially full SmartPack notification can help custodial staff plan their route. A power-loss alert can identify an unplugged machine before waste begins accumulating. Cycle-count trends can help a facility plan preventive maintenance based on actual usage.
For multi-location organizations, the same dashboard can provide a consistent view across stores, facilities, campuses, or regions. This makes it easier to compare utilization, identify unusual activity, coordinate service, and support standardized waste-management programs.
Insite does not replace trained employees, routine inspections, or preventive maintenance. It provides the information needed to make those activities more targeted and efficient.
