Allegra Asheville – A Customer Success Story
Harmony is proud to periodically feature successful businesses with whom we have partnered to help reduce waste, increase recycling, and demonstrate the ROI and benefits realized with the use of Harmony equipment and services. This month, we are thrilled to share our customer success story of Allegra Asheville with you.
Allegra Asheville is primarily a printing and mailing company located in the mountains of western North Carolina. On a monthly basis, they send out about 2 million pieces of mail. Yes, that number is correct, 2 million pieces of mail per month!
The Challenge Handling That Much Mail

Cardboard carton storage and disposal were a challenge for Allegra Asheville’s operations.
The envelopes and paper used by Allegra Asheville in their printing operations arrives in cardboard cartons. Their high volume of operations equates to about 1,500 empty cardboard cartons per month. Their machine operators would break these boxes down and place them in palleted gaylords throughout their production facility.
As you can imagine, it takes a lot of time to breakdown that many cartons and constantly move full or empty pallets. It also requires a lot of operational space to store full gaylords until recycling time. This resulted in wasted employee time and associated costs that could be much better spent on more important job related duties. It also lead to inefficient use of available workplace space.
Allegra Asheville Meeting The Challenges With Harmony!
To address the time, space, and money challenges they were facing in their operations, Allegra Asheville chose to partner with Harmony Enterprises. Working through our proven process, it was clear that a new Harmony M60CB Vertical Cardboard Baler was the right solution for their business.
The M60CB is a cost effective recycling baler that creates dense, mill-sized bales desired by recyclers. The vertical orientation of this baler helps to optimize space, while the efficient operation, fast cycle time, and large feed opening allow staff to operate the machine with minimal time or effort.
Allegra Asheville Operations Team Member, Anthony Sclafani was responsible for the installation process and the coordination with the local recycler. He is extremely happy with the outcome of the installation and commented how much easier it is to recycle our cardboard.
“I am satisfied with how much easier this makes production. It’s also a very satisfying process to watch”, Sclafani said.
Here are just some of the ROI metrics experienced by Allegra Asheville in the short time since the baler was installed:
- They reduced lost floor space by 6 pallet positions
- They have saved 25 hours per month in staff time just in pallet movement
- They reduced box breakdown time for machine operators
- Their recycler now pays us for the baled cardboard (currently $150+ per 1,000 lbs)
According to Allegra Asheville President, Dave Campbell, “Our primary driver with this installation was to make recycling easier from an internal logistics perspective….Mission Accomplished. The process is much easier now that we have the Harmony M60 Cardboard Baler.”

If First You Don’t Succeed…
One of the interesting aspects of this story is that Allegra Asheville had been quoted a machine over a year before their purchase. The inquiry had fallen off of their radar until they were retargeted in a personal contact by Harmony’s marketing department.
From there, Allegra re-engaged in the sales process and the solution was implemented.
Mr. Campbell continued with his high praise of his experience with the Harmony Sales and Marketing Team. “I give you a lot of credit for following up one year after my first inquiry. From a sales perspective, I think staying in touch with prospects or clients is a great thing! Thanks for the reminder, I’m very glad we chose Harmony. The entire Harmony Team served us well.”
