If you have not heard about GDPR, you soon will! According to Wikipedia, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is “a regulation in EU law regarding data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA).”
This new set of regulations went into effect on May 25, 2018. Essentially, they are a set of protections for all individuals and their private information. Businesses who operate withing the European Economic Area (including global websites) can no longer gather and store personal data the way they did in the past. Penalties for failure to follow these regulations are severe and apply to all sized businesses, regardless of their industry niche.
Under GDPR, businesses are required to have express consent for each use of personal data information supplied by each individual. These regulations require businesses to update their privacy policies to include information about data collection and use, storage, data transfer, deletion, use of cookies, behavioral remarketing, communications, and security. Businesses must also purge previously held personal data and store only those with expressed consent.
